Hydrated lime (or calcium hydroxide, or slaked lime) is usually a dry powder resulting from the controlled slaking of quicklime with water. The exothermic or released heat of reaction is captured and used to evaporate the excess slaking water.

It is a colorless crystal or white powder which is obtained when calcium oxide is mixed or slaked with water. Further, it can also be precipitated by mixing an aqueous solution of calcium chloride with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide.
Municipal Wastewater Treatment: In advanced wastewater treatment plants, lime precipitation is used in tertiary processes in which phosphorus is precipitated as complex calcium phosphates along with other suspended and dissolved solids.
Industrial Wastewater: In treating Industrial Wastewaters, lime has many applications. This is widely used where neutralization of acidic wastes is required. In steel plants, sulfuric acid-based waste pickle liquors are neutralized with lime in which the iron salts are precipitated.
